Health Insurance for Multiple Birth Caesarean

Delivering twins or more? Here’s what it can cost.

SG Flyer.webp

Expecting twins or triplets? A multiple birth Caesarean can cost between SGD 9,800 and SGD 13,900. Learn how to prepare financially and medically.

How much does it cost?

The 2025 MOH benchmark for Caesarean delivery in multiple births is SGD 9,800 to SGD 13,900, excluding hospital stay, NICU charges, or additional consultations. These costs reflect only the professional surgeon's fees and do not include additional expenses like room charges, epidural anesthesia, lab tests, or post-operative recovery. Depending on your hospital and specific case, total bills can easily exceed these benchmarks.

What does insurance cover?

Some international health plans have lower limits or exclusions for multiple births. Always check whether your plan includes full maternity coverage for complications. It is important to verify whether the insurance benefit includes both inpatient hospital stays and outpatient consultations related to the procedure. Some insurers distinguish between 'maternity care' and 'surgical intervention', which could affect your reimbursement.

What to watch out for?

Insurers may treat multiple births as high-risk, requiring additional underwriting. You may also face caps on neonatal care, which are crucial in twin deliveries. In addition, watch for any co-insurance clauses, annual benefit caps, or restrictions on where the procedure must be done (e.g., specific hospitals or networks). These can all reduce the actual payout from your insurance.
