Skin & Subcutaneous Tissue Debridement Involving Muscle or Bone: When Wound Care Becomes Surgery

SG Flyer.webp

Severe wounds may extend beyond the skin into muscle, tendon, or even bone. In these cases, surgical debridement is required to remove infected or non-viable tissue and allow healing.

What It Costs

For skin and subcutaneous tissue debridement involving muscle, tendon, or bone, MOH benchmarks indicate:
• Surgeon fee: SGD 1,600 – 3,600
• Anaesthetist fee: SGD 700 – 1,000
Higher fees may apply for high-morbidity areas such as the face or joint flexures.

What’s Typically Covered

Coverage is usually favourable:
• Classified as medically necessary wound care
• Hospitalisation or day surgery benefits apply
• Often linked to infection, trauma, or ulcers

Insurance Tip

This procedure cannot be claimed separately if performed as part of fracture treatment or tumour removal. Bundling rules matter.

Conclusion

Advanced wound care is surgical care. Insurance should recognise both urgency and complexity.
